Akio Miyara received his Bachelor of Engineering from University of the Ryukyu in 1984. And, degrees of Master and Doctor from Kyushu University in 1986 and 1989, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Tetsu Fujii and Prof. Shigeru Koyama. His study during the graduate course was related to heat pump using refrigerant mixtures in which study on condensation and evaporation of refrigerant mixtures was included.

Dr. Miyara joined Saga University in 1989 as a lecturer. And, since 2003, he has been a full professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Saga University, Japan. His research interests include thermophysical properties of next generation refrigerants, condensation and evaporation heat transfer of refrigerants and refrigerant mixtures, and ground source heat pump. On those topics, he published about 100 refereed papers. He currently served as Vice-President of Japan Society of Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Associate Editor of Applied Thermal Engineering, and member of Organizing Committee of some international conferences.
